As a man who shops for ethically sourced men's clothing I know that it is hard to find clothing that is a.) at a reasonable price and b.) made in a safe environment. Eco friendly shopping can be very difficult and let's face it, if you want to shop consignment you have more luck finding acute vintage dress for women than you do a medium plain tee for men. There are two reasons that this occurs. The first is that men wear there clothes until they are literally falling apart on their body. The second reason is that we are not to be bothered aka "too lazy" to go into stores and even initiate a consignment rather than do it on a month to month or yearly basis. (P.s. I commend the men that do put in the effort and consign. Good on you sir!) But alas it is hard to find men's clothing in a reasonable price range let alone made from good quality material that wasn't made by children in a sweat shop.
But I have a solution! Here are three great companies that look good, can be trusted, and will not break the bank.
#1 Ethically Sourced Men's Clothing: United By Blue
Let's talk United By Blue. This company packs an environmental punch. With every item of apparel sold they remove 1 pound of garbage from some source of water. One pound! That is more than most people do in 10 years! They use recycled polyester, organic cotton, and wool to name just a few of the materials to make these wonderful pieces of clothing. Their T-shirts range from $17.50 to $36 dollars, I have even seen some for $8 on amazon. With a mission like theirs it is hard not to support them. The clothing is a bit slim fit, but just think of it as a reason to get in better shape.
Next on the list is Soul Flower. Soul Flower is a super cool company that I first heard about in NH at this fun and also eco friendly little store Positive Vibrations. Soul Flower has been making clothes for men and women since the late 90's. When it comes to clean practices these folks sweep the competition. They use organic cotton, hemp, fair trade and hand made, cruelty free repurposed clothing. Made in the USA using low impact dyes, recycled fiber and at this point they are making everything in house (including the designs). The fit for the mens clothing mostly hangs off the shoulders and a little tight in the chest area. The material is super soft and extremely comfortable. Prices from from $28 to $32 for a nice comfy shirt. Click Here to Visit there site. Find a more in depth article about Soul Flower here.
Last but not least I bring to you Alternative Apparel. This company by far takes the cake price wise and personally fits me the best. Alternative Apparel uses G2 wash which uses 60% less water than your typical wash. They use Organic and Eco Fabrics, Non toxic, low impact dyes, and recycled poly materials. They do work on a global scale with companies that respect workers rights and that fall in line with the Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production (WRAP), an independent, non-profit team of global social compliance experts. The way these clothes fit, for my body type at least (which is medium soft) is fantastic. They are loose around the waste but tight in the chest. The material is soft and best of all the price range for these items are as low as $5.14! Of coarse you can spend a lot of money if you want, but it is not necessary.
So there you have it. This is my top 3 for now, but as I continue to shop and search I will share what I find to keep you all informed on the best eco friendly men's clothing out there. Thanks for stopping by!
